Kombucha Tea
Tea. There is nothing like it. The flavors, colors, aromas, and warmth are delightful and healing to one's soul. Everyone seems to have their favorite, yet when I mention kombucha tea people glare me down with bewilderment. For those of you who don't know, it's time I let you in on an amazing concoction which has been around since the late 19th century. This naturally effervescent drink is commonly referred to as a mushroom, yet is really colonies of bacteria and yeast. When the large, pancake-like growth is completed it is prepared by taking a starter sample ("mother) from existing culture and growing a new colony ("baby"). The tea is prepared by adding the colony to a green or black tea and allowing mixture to ferment. The resulting liquid is alkaline, and contains vinegar, B vitamins, and many other chemical compounds.

Next Stop: Goodsprings, NV

Whenever I ask people who are familiar with Las Vegas if they have ever heard or stopped by Goodsprings, Nevada, the most common answer I get is "No." Well why would they, considering it was known for nothing but a mining town back in about the 1900's? After WWII finished the mining community dwindled, and now, they say the population is a mere 200. I highly doubt that. It seems more like 50 and all 50 can be found at Pioneer Saloon!
My interest in Goodsprings, NV came about as I was searching for nearby ghostowns we could stop by on the way to Las Vegas. That was going to be my "adventure" for the trip. I ended up finding the Pioneer Saloon (above) and its story of why it was "haunted" and the fact that it is rumoured to be the oldest Saloon in NV (over 90 yrs. old) So me and my friend made our detour off the highway and wandered off into Goodsprings. Boy, were we wanderers. Curious, we stopped at the Saloon. We entered and there was nothing haunting about it except for the people inside whom acted and appeared as pirates that were taking a break from their journey at sea. Feeling out of place, we sped for the bathroom. After we caught our breath and asked eachother what the heck just happened out there, we quickly sped out to the front door. A few of the grimey buccaneers (aka white trash) followed us out cheering like we were actually something to cheer about. Now that I think of it, maybe we were! Anyways, long story short...that is why most of these photos are few and snapped from the car. We wanted in and out of that little town ASAP!

Calling All Book Worms!
So I wanted to rush on today to share with you (me??) an AMAZING new online discovery! Well, maybe its not new new, but it's new to me. For months my sister has been trying to get words in with me about this paperbook swap thingamabob. 'Yeah, yeah,' I would reply when she would attempt to share. 'I don't have time for these shenanigans,' I would think to myself. Well, today, I finally lended an ear while she took me online and revealed this wonderful world of FREE books! Yes, I said it. FREE books! I'm so glad I listened!
Here is how it works: First you need to register. Then after registration, you need to look for atleast 10 books you don't want to keep anymore and post them up on your account. You will not need to take photos (hemhem ebay.) If you are the first startup account in your household, you will receive 2 free credits automatically. That means you will be able to request 2 books from another member right away! After your posted books are received by other members, you will earn more credits! Viola! You sow a book, you reap a book! Try it out! You will be so glad you listened to me (here I go talking to myself again)!

Jammy Jam Jam Jam!
Drumroll.... Here is the outcome of some strawberry jam I conjured up the other weekend! So I sorta made my own concoction from 3 different jam recipes I found. I didn't even bother measuring or taking notes of what I was doing because I felt like I was doing a mathematical equation while trying to figure out exactly how I wanted to make it! All I know is that the ingredients consisted of the traditional ol' pectin, strawberries, honey, lemon juice, and suker (sugar, idiot.) The outcome was fan-friggin-tastic for all who received my little jar of splendor! I still can't keep my paws off of it!
